Ways To Introduce A New Romantic Partner To Your Tribe:
1. Don't bring
him or her around too soon. Allow the new relationship to grow solid
before you throw your new partner into the maw of tribe activities.
2. Don't assume
that your fantastic group of friends will make you more attractive to
your potential mate. Remember, your friends look different to you than
they will to the person you are wooing. While you might be comfortable
with all of your friends, your new amour may feel as if a panel of French
figure-skating judges is rating his or her looks and actions.
3. Assume your new
romantic interest will feel some jealousy about your devotion to your
friends. Within any urban tribe there is an ambient charge of sexual
energy which comes from a mixture of old crushes and years of platonic
touching and easy physical intimacy. It's your job to assure you
new squeeze that the group is not a threat to your burgeoning relationship.
4. Don't take
your group's opinion as the last word on the value of your new
relationship. Friends can give important insights on the strengths and
weaknesses of your romance, but remember that they are not impartial
observers. If you're in a single's tribe, your friends may
not want to "lose you" to a serious romance.
5. Don't cut
your friends off. Remember, you'll need them if things go south
between you and the new love of your life.
